Question repair or new engine

there is a silver WRX on an 'L' plate in a garage next to my depot at work, for sale.
He said that the crank has gone but it still runs and is after £3500 for it as is, or £5000 with a new engine.

Can anyone tell me, how hard is it to repair this or is it a new engine job?

many thanks

Tony

An engine rebuild is gonna cost at least £1500 and I think thats the labour itself (I think as I did mine myself). Might as well buy a second hand engine from a reputable place. If you're rebuilding, you might as well uprate the components and by the time you're done (oil pump, pistons, rods, gaskets, etc) you'll reach £thousands. As for labour, you get what you pay for so dont skimp on that, especially that..
