Question Droning sound when doing more than 40mph

In the last couple of days there has been a droning or whining sound comming from the back of the car.

It's a hard sound to describe really, but it's definately there when doing more than 40mph.

I've got it booked in to a garage but I was wondering if anybody else could shed any light on what the problem might be.
E.g. wheel bearing, rear diff?????? (Expensive..!!)

By the way its an Impreza Sport..

Thanks in advance.
