Angry ongoing saga.. scoob wiring/electrical help!

previously posted here: http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/showthread.php?t=300407

Ok, so downloaded the Engine control system wiring diagrams (for a Turbo) from ravensblade (page 26) and have a few related questions re: my fuel pump power problem..

Fuel pump relay: how to test its all working correctly?
(Got a rough idea where it is now..)

Fuel Pump control module? : where is it, and again how do i test it to make sure its all working correctly? Didnt know about this, but its on the wiring diag, so thought I would ask..

Fwiw,
I think Im gonna give Scoobyclinic a ring if I cant sort it within a couple of days and see if can get booked in to be sorted once and for all
Pat hasnt managed to get over due to conspiring circumstances...

..thoroughly cheesed off with all this..

Fuel pump control unit - don't think there is such a thing? I think it just uses the main and fuel pump relays controlled by the ECU in a stock setup? Have you tried replacement relays?

relays are on the to do list...
fuel pump relay is the first stop.

I usually use a LINK, and the setup is far from standard now...
just using the JECS to help with cold starting, and turned down the fuel pressure to help (and not driving on boost) as I thought the problem was with the link directly.. now Im not so sure..

the wiring diagram shows a fuel pump control module.. thats what it says.. whether or not its a genuine standalone component- I dont know.. ??

Fuel Pump control module? : where is it
Don't actually know where it is but could it be under the inspection panel in the boot on the left hand side of the car, opposite the inspection panel which reveals the fuel pump.....

The ravensblade site is mostly about American models, there is no fuel pump controller on your car, the ecu pulls the pump relay coil to ground to actuate and the relay just switches on the fuel pump. So if you are having the same problem with both ecu's its a wiring or pump relay fault, the relay is the same one that used elsewhere, look up under the dash on the drivers side by the A piller, there are a couple up there, you can swap one over with the pump relay, best way to check is to take it out (pump relay) and use an independant 12v supply to switch it whilst checking for switched continuity through the contacts, if you operate it at 12 volts repetitively you will find out if its intermittant.

to add also check thet the ground connection from the pump itself is sound as you have changed/uprated the pump and may have had to remake connections ?

finally a result;

It was the Clifford Wireless fuel guard at fault..

This was fixed, and the car then ran perfectly again.. no lumpy idle, no mini-misfires...

Thank god
(looks like the LINK is absolutely FINE ! )

Ummm, I'm having similar problems to you with a 2001 new age, dealers had the car back several times, fitted coils, and a MAF. I still have the problem. I'm now awaiting an upgraded ECU (and a driveshaft, but that's another story). Sounds like I should be checking the relays. 6 months and counting for me, hope I get it sorted soon, or I'm gonna buy an Audi!
