pops and bangs

got a my 92 wrx fulldecat vta dumpvalve scooby ecu . right i got pops and bangs on gear changes thought this is normal with the set up i have now. noticed driveing down the road when i let of the gas for a bit and then put my foot back on the gas again getting some big bangs is this normal it dident do this before its good dont get me wrong is it doing any harm or not cheers grant

I think its normal after a decat, I get quite a few pops & bangs especially on over run.
from the info I've read on here over the past eight months it seems to be something to do with imprezas slightly over fueling, but this isnt something I know, only what I've read
I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong

the reason it is popping and banging is to do with the fact that the BOV does not recirculate left over gas. thus it fools the MAF.
someone else will be able to explain better than i!
it is on the otherhand better for it to over fuel than to run lean! obviously you don't want any det afterall.
the other thing is, make sure you change the oil reguarly (every 3 k). not only is this a wise servicing move, but the pops and bangs can cause bore soak, leading to the oil becoming contaminated with fuel.
