The power steering on my MY99 Turbo whines a bit once it is hot! Is this normal or does this mean it is a bit low or a bit thin and needs replacing!?

Cheers

Damo

PS Does MY in MY99 stand for manufacture year!?

The fluid could probably do with topping up a bit but it appears so runny that it just drips off the marker before I've got chance to check it!!

Sounds like the fluid needs changing then..

Can read the dipstick on mine no problem.. even the really old oil before the recent oil change could still read the level.

Not 100% sure that would make it whine though, but if the fluid was low it would, does it do it on full lock only or all the time the steering is moved?

It is very sensitive to level so you could top it up a very small bit and see if it stops but sounds like an oil change is wise anyway. If you top it up too much it will make the steering really light and fluid will be leaked out the cap.

Me too. Mine had discoloured slightly too which makes me wonder if it had been boiling. It used to whine like mad after 30-40 mins hard driving. Thought it was the gearbox at first Changing is straightforward. Disconnect the return pipe on the reservoir, run the engine at idle and catch the fkuid in a container. Then reconnect the pipe, fill the reservoir, run the engine at idle again and keep filling until the level doesn't drop anymore. Switch it off, let it cool and recheck level. Top tip is to fill to the top of the 'hot' mark with the oil cold, stopped my whining (well my steering's whining anyway ) and doesn't seem to do it any harm.

Oh and MY stands for Model Year AFAIK.

Hope this helps
