When I give my car some welly (1994 STi), I get a rattley(sp) metal slappy noise from what seems like the drivers side of the engine, any ideas? Recently I also get a pfft pfft pfft noise which sounds like air leaking, any ideas?

....I don't think its any of the heat shields, it makes exactly the same noise at the same time(the metal rattle noise).

regarding the air leak, check the hose under the IC.

The metal noise could be a stone in the heat shield on the drivers side manifold. They also do crack in difficult-to-see places.

Its sounding more like a flapping metal noise, am I way off if I say is it anything to do with the turbo, It starts as the turbo starts to spin up, then goes quieter at higher revs.
