Anti lag ???
On a car with no Anti Lag System (ALS)as soonas you get off the accelerator the turbo slows down (ie not producing full boost)
so when you get on the gas again you dont have instant full boost
but have to wait a fraction of a second for the turbo to spool up.
This is called Turbo Gap ??(literally translated from dutch).
If you've got ALS as soon as you get off the pedal the system injects petrol into the pipe leading to the turbo ,which ignites because of the temp, these gasses keep the turbo going (ie it doesnt slow down as much/not at all)
so if you put the pedal down the turbo doesnt have to spool up, thus (almost) removing turbo gap.

ALS retard the ignition a lot, and opens the throttle a bit.... depending on how it's set up.
This sends unburned fuel into the turbo where it burns spinning it up.
It makes a very cool rumbling noise with intermittant gunshot like bangs (flames included
). Just like a rally car, though it depends on how aggressive you set it up (it destroyes turbo's)
It works amazingly well and even if it didn't it would be worth it just for the grin factor

Scoobies have a long manifold(s) before the turbo though so I guess it depends on how it's set up. I wouldn't have thought it'd be the sort of thing that you'd want activated whilst pootling along in traffic though....stop-go-stop-go-bangandfrythecarbehindstop-go-stop

Sounds like lots of pops and bangs and especially after dark the flames from the exhaust can be spectacular. Not realy necessary or desirable for road use and it can dramatically shorten turbo life.

I wouldn't say not desirable on the road, it makes a big noticable difference..... unless the not desirable part was buying the new turbo.....
It also does a good job of stopping people tailgating you so it's safer than a car without it
I'll wait until i get pulled over though to see if that works

ALS will only damage the turbo if it's either a basic system (like GEMS, MoTeC et al) or it's poorly setup. Modern ALS implementations are kinder to the turbo, and it's not uncommon to run a turbo for a whole season in Group N without needing to replace / service the unit.
There was whole thread about the legalities a while back that ran into pages and pages..... i don't think anyone ever came up with a set in stone answer, it all seemed like speculation. I'm pretty sure you'd get pulled over for making fire though
Pat, Is GEMS not the system used by most of group N... do they have some sort of more advanced piggy back anti-lag???
Dave (a muppet it seems
).

I know someone who was stopped by the police while running Anti Lag. At first the police assumed it was a flame kit and the guy was given a fixed penalty and three points. At the time he thought he had got off lightly. I do not know what the offence was but I will find out next time I see him.
There is no place for driving with Anti Lag on a public highway. Having fun on track is another matter as long as you are prepared for the odd turbo overhaul.
