Have been looking at the various ecu-remap options for my '97 JDM Sti.

Link / Motec options looking a little on teh pricey side for me the link coming in at the "cheaper" option (£1430.00)...

I beleive that a scoobECU is not an option for my particular application having the later ECU as it does being a '97 JDM.

Question is what would be the down side/problems associated with fitting a '96 ECU / ScoobyECU chip in place of my '97 Sti ECU and applying a suitable map?

I know the Target Boost level o fthe Standard ScoobuECU is 14 PSI whilst I beleive mine to be 17.5(1.2 bar ish) - what I am trying to acheive would be 98 Octane map at 17.5psi a target to start with (ie replicating a close approximation to current boost/performance levels) and then as time/finances allow, further (power orientated remaps).

Id like to know too! Think the scooby ECU or ECUTEK people could make some good money from doing a 97-98 MAP

I think the actual ECU internals are different to the earlier cars, but might be wrong?

I'll look into the Unichip - I guess it would be a possibility - though setup would be considerably more complex than (if it's possible swapping out to a '96 ECU fitted with a scoobyECU and remapping that)....

The internals of a '96 and previous ECU do differ from the '97 ECU. it having no second processor socket for starters which is what the scoobyECU relies on my JECS A18-000-D35 shown here:

Hmmm if only it was possible to remap the original but I do not beleive this is viable - The cpu I beleive is "write once only" and I'm guessing a subaru map to work on and modify in completely unavailable.

I had a Unichip quote for an My97 import from Owen Developments of about £600. This included the box of tricks with 1/2 day set up as well.

Hmm - a more reasonable price than the other solutions I have seen so far and worth investigation.

I'll look into it myself but as a start:

Is it a replacement unit or a secondary unit working with the original ECU?

Does it control boost/ timing / fuelling or just fuelling?

Are there tools avaialble to adjust the map after the initial installation (the usual Pc based items).

Also can anyone tell me what all the extra cash for the Link or even Motec actually gets you?

The extra cash for a full ECU gets you just that, a full ECU not just an interceptor unit.

Also the Link / Motec can be mapped by anyone with the requisite knowledge, the software to map the Unichip is restricted to authorised resellers.

Nice picture of the JECS ECU, the 4 headers W100/110/120/130 can be used to hook up external memory to the processor to make the ECU re-mappable ala PE Phase 1.

Andrew

I get you, so the Unichip it fits between the OEM ECU and the WCU loom, so its modifying the OEM ECU's output.

Bad news about mapping software for the UNIChip - thats a show-stopper as far as I'm concerned.

Very interested to hear about the OEM remap possibilities via thos 4 headers - can you supply any more info? Not looking you see to make huge power gains, just to tweak params very slightly here and there.
