Variable Diff may be buggered??

Hello Dudes and Dudettes,
When I brake severely my indicator on my dash for the variable central diff on my 95 STI RA does a very good impersination of a knocklink "christmas treeing", it has done this a couple of times now and it does feel like the diff is locking and unlocking, is the force of me braking moving things which shouldnt move?? I throw this to the mercy of the gurus!
