MY96 Legacy GT gearbox question
#1
Hi all
I have read on here that there is a dipstick to check the gearbox oil.
If so, where is it? I have a manual box in a twin turbo setup, so there is not a lot of room looking down towards the gearbox from the engine bay. I have had a good look with a torch, but still can't find anything.
Before you say 'look in the owners manual', I have ordered it, but not got it yet.
Cheers

Excellent - found it. It is hidden well - that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it .
Another question for you. What is the device right by the little loop of the Gearbox dipstick handle? It exits the bottom of the intercooler and goes horizontally forwards into a manifold.
Mine in leaking oil. Not a huge amount, but I will have to get a new gasket for it (whatever it is).
Is it hard to remove?

I think you're talking about the air feed from the secondary turbo (rhs) to the intercooler. Theres a plastic elbow leading from the sec turbo to an alloy pipe which is bolted on to the intercooler. That pipe has a butterfly valve connected to an actuator. Its common for oil to condense and collect in the intercooler and I noticed on mine that the oil leaked through the secondary butterfly valve axle. Don't worry about it. Ideally you'd fit an oil catch can (use search) to prevent or at least reduce this but unless you're going to tune to the edge it won't have any detrimental effect - except maybe an occasional puff of smoke in the exhaust.
