I have heard a lot about the different types of dump valve.
I run a MY01 WRX which I believe has a reticulating valve.

I have seen a few atmospheric valves for sale, I know these make the wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwosh but other than that are there any benefits? Can they damage the turbo? Is the MPG better or worse?

Suppliers are very keen to tell you any bull just to sell them.

Should I get one or are they just a waste of money

Sorry for what may sound a thick question but I am still very new to the Scooby!!!

Only mod to date is to change the pea shooter to a sweet looking STI back box (was hoping it would be a little louder )

Thanks

Jon

Up to you really. As long as you don't expect it to do a lot then fine. I've been running a Forge Atmo DV on my MY01 WRX for over 40K miles with no ill effects. Forge is no where near as loud as some (go for HKS if you want to frighten old ladies ). I like the noise, but didn't want it too OTT.

They are also meant to improve the speed at which the boost builds up. That is certainly true on mine, but then I also run a semi-decat exhaust system which might also have something to do with it. Pressure is released very quickly when you come off the gas as well.

I've not heard of DVs like this causing specific problems with the turbo. You are more likely to damage that by not following the warm down procedures after going for a quick thrash and letting the turbo 'cook' the oil.

You can get them from any number of suppliers. Scoobysport, TSL, Graham Goode, Xtreme Scoobies all come to mind.

Chris

Hi again Jon,
no more stop searches i hope
You could try scoobyclinic clicky
Most of the notts/derby lads use them.I was up there wednesday to have some work done and asked them about dump valves to cut along story short they did the work and got that whoooosh sound that goes with atmospheric dump valves without replacing my existing unit the changes they did make made a big difference to the car.
Their up near Chesterfield
