Black smoke?

was on way bak from southend last night having a bling with freind in wrx, sitting about 137mph then floord it lookd in the mirror and there was clouds of black smoke poring out the back, carried on for a bit than checked engine, sounds fine and runs same as ever, just wonderd what the smoke was, also it wasent the first time i booted it that night so didnt realy expext it ..............is this anything 2 worry about ..the cars done 48k 97 type r..... also couldnt shake the aparenly standard wrx ...cheers

sounds to me you are running rich and its unburned fuel making the black smoke, may be wrong but i used to get the same thing on my old 2litre capri when i pulled the choke out when i have some tw@t up my @rse, they soon backed off from the fumes

Nah Andy, it probably wasn't the smell backing off. Probably more that they wouldn't want pedestrians to think they were following the Capri...
BTW, think you'll find there's only one "t" in tw@.

Scooby-woo, are you sure the smoke was really black? It can be hard to tell in the dark. Are there any other symptoms (car feeling flat, using lots of oil etc.)?
