ok posted not long back my pump was making a noise when turning the wheel found out that it was lack of oil. i filled it up with some oil that i got from halfords that said in the little book can be used in imprezas my98 now after a few weeks it has started to squeak when the engine is at idle and you can heard it when slowing down

could i have out the wrong oil in? if so would it knacker the pump or bearing and make it squeak?

should it try some lubrication around the front od the pulley near the bearing as i live in scotland and it has just got very cold? could the cold be the problem?could it be some other pulley?

hope you can help

jo

you could try adding a "treatment" into the resovoir tank, which is designed to help free off sticking valves and soften hardened seals. might be worth a try, but the oil you should of used is the same as "auto box oil".
The treatment I've used in the past is a "Forte" product, simply called "power steering treatment", simply pourin and then drive as normal and it may take a couple of days to fully do its trick, but better than writing off a steering pump for a new one.
