APEXi S-AFC what does it actually do and should I get one?

Just looking through the For Sale forum at various bits and bobs to spend the kids christmas fund on and have seen this S-AFC thing.
I'm aware that it enables you to fiddle with the fuelling but what benefit will I get from it. I see that the MK2 version has a knockink which I am after anyway.
My only mods are SS zorst from turbo back and I think an ITG panel filter but haven't had the box off to look. Should I get some other mods done before buying something like this? However, again I'm not really sure where to start with mods.
