I have spent most of my time of scoob ownership in fear of engine issues. (2 Weeks)

Can someone tell me what to look for, I know this sounds silly but to me a boxer engine is completely different and im not sure how to tell if healthy - local garage checked it out but their comments werent helpful..

What is a standard rebuild costing these days ?

 

I've got a my 95 with 100k on it runs sweet m8 got a tappet noisey when started and when hot heat sheilds around manifold are also noisey ,most common is the heat sheilds bit of pain really
