I have an my95 WRX import for 6 months now and it had a rattly heatshield every time i passed 2000 revs - still under warranty though but that is not covered any way they removed it today and sounds better but assured me no harmwould come to the car through doing this........ is this true - lease say it is!

can't see it causing any problems.
I removed mine last year and its been spot on, although I did completely heat wrap it to keep under-bonnet temperatures down. Ported the manifold whilst it was off too!

It's as easy to just get it welded! I have had to get 3 welded.
I personally would have left it on as its there I believe to stop the exhaust shattering etc if its suddenly exposed to cold water etc i.e. a puddle!

Why not just modify your heat shield and make it fit better? Much easier.
If you have an aftermarket downpipe, then wrap it if you take the heat shield off
