classic maf failure symptoms - idle going between 200rpm and 1000rpm, not being able to find its idle point. when mine did it, the idle didnt do this continuously, just now and then. when travelling, dipping the clutch at speed, the rev counter would drop down to 200rpm very quickly then shoot back up.

so a search for maf part number - dont pay more than £75 for part.

You can also have intermittant boost problems too, have recently changed one for this reason and cured within seconds.

scoobyslut, can you be a bit more specific. i'm having intermittent hesitation problems which seem to have stemmed from around the time i changed the maf to prevent intermittent idle.

dealer has replaced plugs and leads since to no avail and now says maf i put on must be faulty.

my hesitation is always when engine is warm and under no load, just doing 45mpg in 4th for example, never under hard acceleration. when it happens, foot to the floor for a few seconds clears it. is this in any way similar to what you had ?

cheers
