I have just bought a MY99 turbo and now that I have settled into the car a bit, I have been looking to fix a small problem that came with the car.
The drivers door need to be closed with quite a force to correctly catch on the lock, anything less and the door would only be on the first catch. On the last service, I pointed this out to the garage and they have adjusted the door lock so that it now takes less force to shut the door, but now there is more wind noise and the door sits proud of the passenger door!
Is this the only way the door can be adjusted? I would have expected that the door should be flush with the rest of the car, quiet of wind noise and not need to be slammed.

I believe it is a "design feature" of the frameless door and a semi-sealed compartment.

If you wind the window down, the door closes easily, but when you wind the window back up you get wind noise! But then you probably knew that!!

A couple of suggestions:
Open the sun roof before closing the door. (not too good if you don't have a sun roof!)

or

Close your door before your passenger closes theirs. (annoys the passenger when they can't close their door (front)!)

or preferably

Open one of the rear windows an inch or two before closing your door, then close the back window. The back windows do not seem to have the same closing problem/wind noise as the front.

you need to adjust the angle the angle of the glass you do this by taking off the door trim and you will see at the top of the door 4 12 mm nuts with a slotted bolt in the centre of them slacken off the nuts and screw the bolts in a bit more this should then pull the glass away from the seal givine the same affect as the door lock but with out the windnoise

Graham and Scoobyboy

Thank you for those comments but I don’t think that the problem is related to the pressure inside the car as the door is closed, as the front passenger door is fine. I thought that the problem was present even with the driver’s window open but I will have to revisit this when I get the door closing further.
Oh yes, I don’t have a sunroof!
The wind noise that I have is coming from beneath the door lock and the lower edge of the door and not the window.
I can see that the garage has adjusted the door catch plate (on the body of the car) but I don’t know if the door lock has been or can be adjusted.
As the door is now proud of the rear door, I will have to adjust this first before I play with the angle of the glass.
Do you have any suggestions on how to adjust the door lock?

Duke

Adjust the catch by slackening off the two screws that hold it to the body, then reposition it further in towards the centre of your motor. Mark the catch before moving it (Draw round it with a pencil)as it is difficult otherwise to attain the correct vertical/horizontal orientation.

The catch can be moved about quite a bit on the door pillar so be patient and keep on locking the screws lightly and trying the door before you tighten the screws fully.

Look along the body of the car and check that shut line is flush.

Make sure when you close the door that it isnt rising up onto the latch to close as this will weaken your hinges.

Once you have the above satisfactorily adjusted you can start work on adjusting the window.

There is no adjustment for the door lock part in the door.

Good Luck
