clicky to your pics/

I noticed from your pics that there is possibly a HKS EVC 3 fitted?. I can see the HKS solenoid on the strut area. This is how your boost is raised.

Also you asked where to get a replacement for the orange sprung hose, you could get a samco hose easily, but.. Best thing would be to raises the inlet manifold (spacers available), this will let you run a pipe straight to the turbo. The reason for that turbo being fitted is to remove the 90 deg entry, using a pipe like the one you have (or a better samco) where it points up from the turbo defeats the object of front entry turbo.

Hello all

I have just purchased a MY93 Scooby which has had quite a few mods

I have just taken a few picures of ECU and a device next to it to see if this is standard or modded...

Here goes

Link to pictures of my ECU

www.rjwindustrialrepairs.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk

On ECU is has the following written

7D 22611 AB730
A18-000 D08
5531 ... poss serial number?
Unisia jecs Corporation
Made in Japan

On it is a sticker as seen on piccys,I take is this is a 'tuning house' sticker?? Project K, Auto expert house

Also by the ECU is a device (seen in piccy).

This is a black box made by HKS Electronic tech
Say's FCD in big letters and has a pot you can adjust 1-9
Its set at 8. at moment
Is this a rpm limiter???

Mods done (not by me!)

HKS FRONT INTERCOOLER
HKS SUPER POWER FLOW AIR FILTER
HKS ELECTRONIC VALVE CONTROLLER
HKS SQV DUMP VALVE
HKS BOOST GAUGE
P1 TURBO
3" Exhaust system, Decatted

Apparently about 285 BHP

Any help/info will be greatly appreciated..

Want to learn whats on my car and what to do with it, I.E setting up/Mapping etc etc

Cheers

The sticker on the outside could just be that, only way to tell is to take the lid off the ECU.

Also the HKS FCD is a Fuel Cut Defender. It's used when you up the boost, basicallly as standard the boost will be say 0.85 bar, the standard Fuel Cut point will be around 1.0bar (car will cut out if it gets to this level as safety feature). When you raise the boost above this point you need to raise the Fuel Cut point, hence the FCD.

Thing is, with an ECU remap (which the sticker is suggesting), the remap usually has a fuel cut raiser built into the map AFAIK.

Someone else will be able to shed more light I'm sure

There are 6 screws which may have been loctited so may be an @rse to remove. When the cover is removed check to see whether there is a chip or additional board 'plugged' into a 28pin Eprom holder which if you hold the ECU in front of you with the 4 sockets facing up will be located on the bottom right

The 7D ECU was fitted to my UK Wagon standard. Here's a piccy of inside the ECU showing the 28pin Eprom socket.

Hope this helps

Looking at the inside, I notice the resistor is uncut, so I would suspect it is a standard map, with the fuel cut there to allow increased boost from a bleed valve.

Does the car have anything extra around the turbo area ?

The HKS box is likely a fuel cut defender, which with a bleed valve or Dawes works rather effectively (for how simple it is).

ECU is standard, although that can easily be fixed.

You're problem with the turbo and intercooler, is going to be fuel or lack of it. You will be able to flow enough air to reach the limit of the standard injectors and fuel pump. I wouldn't recommend pushing it past about 12psi until you can get some confidence it's not running rather lean when you hit full boost.

When I took it ti poerstation this weekend

Richard Said it was running very slighty lean.... Checked Fuel pressure said was plenty.... Said 80% chance of AIR FLOW Device faulty??????

How Do I check what injectors it has...

Sorry for all these questions, but wanna get to know my scooby well

The air flow sensor on the early cars is very reliable. The injectors will be the standard, grey topped, 380cc/min units.

With the intercooler and relatively high flowing turbo, you have the potential for over 300hp, but the injectors with standard fuel pressure will be flat out, and the pump barely able to keep up.

An uprated fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator would be a good investment, available from Mark at Lateral Performance as a kit with all the right bits, although you can shop around to buy individual parts. You would at least be able to raise the fuel pressure slightly, which with the standard UK map will work quite well, as they tend to run quite lean anyway.

Hello JamesWRX

It has a HKS EVC Version IV fitted..

This reads in KG/CM2.. I have reset unit and done learning mode and set min to .95 and max to 1.15 bar (this is about 1.3KHG/CM2)
I have on Dash HKS boost gauge that reads in BAR, SO i use this for real time readings.....

One question I have regarding HKS ECV IV, Is what exactly does this do appart from allowing more boost than ECU would allow... Does it improve power curves etc....

Also thinking of using an octane booster (sell Aidon loccaly) as was told its running a bit lean.... Any comments

Cheers

The learning mode on the evc 4 lets the boost controller learn the way the turbo spools up to full chat. The evc can then make the turbo spool up faster using what it's learn't, and what boost target it has had input.
