How long before a clutch change
#1
How long on average is it before the clutch needs to be replaced. I have never had to replace a clutch on a car before, even my 360,000 mile cavalier sri was on it's original clutch. yet I read hear lots of people replacing them on impreza's. Does everyone pile on the revs then side step the clutch at every opportunity?

Even if you don't pile on the revs, the clutch is taking a shedload of strain. You're channeling between 210 and 300 bhp through it, depending on your mods, and onto 4 large sticky tyres which don't like to spin.
It takes a hammering due to the power and 4wd: if the tyres can't slip, the clutch takes a battering.
There's a thread on "average clutch life" in drivetrain right now

how can you tell if it's on the way out? must resist those gangster squeely wheel getaways. (shame I love trying to get wheels to spin)
Mines just done 30k with nothing to report..
doh - just given it the kiss of death.. I can see me on the way home tonight at the side of road clutch smoking...

So what is a good replacement of the O.E. clutch?
I know that it depends from the car and output power of it.Talking about the 98 MY GT, which I want to modify it what is the better for it?
