Octane Boosters
I've heard a lot about octane boosters being used on imports due the the Japanese having 100 RON fuel, but would any benefit be obtained in using boosters on a UK car?
Does upping the octane rating make the engine run hotter or more efficiently and hence cooler?
Would I notice any power gain on a uk car?
I'm sure I read somewhere that imports can suffer up to 30 Bhp loss
due to our inferior fuel. Is this true?
Any info on this topic would be warmly received.
Cheers

Not seen that Nitrous link before - an Oz octane booster that claims up to six RON improvement.
Anybody tried it or have a view? Mike Tuckwood?

Richard,
I'll let you know in a few weeks. Have got some on order.
saw a test in a mag with a load of other boosters -all the tests were done on a compression machine so they got true results.
In the diluted treatment (where you get 6 tanks out of a bottle) it upped SUL to 99.8 and for the whole bottle, it went to 102 or 103.
So it seems pretty good.

OK.
Firstly, these tests were all done in a Knock Engine and the base fuel was Shell Super, which came out at 96.8 Ron.
There were some "major" brands in the test, such as Wynns and STP, which gave between .6 and .8 improvement.
They tried Toluene and that gave a 2.5 Ron improvement, then NF wwhich gave a 2.8 Ron improvement.
The only thing better on the day was Elf 107 Ron race fuel.

Rich iuse silklone pro boost from graham goode racing(tel 01162452320) i'm not sure how much it up's the RON but i know it has a marked improvment on performance.
hope this helps

Baldrick,
Cheers for that. Since using the Millers (for only a couple of fill ups) I can't say I've noticed any performance improvement but the mpg has shot up. I'm getting 30-40 miles more to a tank. Had to do an ecu reset as the exhaust went really black at first, but since that it is fine.

Searched the net using WEB FERRET and found lots of sites regarding octane booster.
Many interesting sites and the genaral impression i recieved were that rally teams and drag teams use ethyl achohol, xylene and tolulene along with other chemicals to boost octane.
Both which are used as regualar paint thinners!
