Question

I've had my MY93 WRX a year now, but I'm curious....

If I go on a long drive and it's cool outside (eg, evening), I set the climate control to 20deg C and put the fan on auto.
For the first hour or so, everything is fine but then cold air starts to come into the cabin......so I move the climate control to 22degC. Warm air comes through again.
A short while later, it starts to get cold again, so I move the dail higher....

I can sometimes end up with the dial at near 30deg C to try to get some warmth into the car, even if it's freezing outside!

I thought climate control was supposed to keep the cabin a constant temperature?! Is there a possibility that the temp sensor is broken, or that it has somehow moved, and is picking up warm air from somewhere?

Any comments appreciated to help solve this irritating problem!

My experience is that on a cold day if i set it too 22 deg it gets too hot until the sensor has registered the desired temperature.
So i set it too 20 and once the car has warmed up i adjust it up to 22 and it maitains that temp within the car.
Sounds like your internal temp sensor is possibly shot.
If i set mine on 30 it would be like a sauna

Unhappy

I thought as much....

Cheers for the advise. I'll now have to find a replacement, and find out how to fit it.

At least summer is just round the corner (?) so I won't have to worry too much over the next few months!

Hi folks,
I have exactly the same problem with the climate control as Dave D. Anyone know where the temperature sensor is located and what a replacement cost's ?
Regards,
John

There may be two sensors, one on dash to left of steering wheel, below dials. It has several slits about 1 cm across.
The other is meant to be at high level near the sunroof or map light controls, but I can't find it on mine.

DaveD,

You're right - the sensor to the right of the screen vent is a sunlight sensor. It detects direct sunlight so the climate control can adjust to the extra direct heat.

I agree that the problem is likely to be with the other sensor.

Nick,

I believe the second sensor is on the top of the dash, on the right-hand side of the screen vent. It's a small black round thing, and I think it's supposed to sense how much daylight is coming into the car. (But I could be *very* wrong!)

I guess it's the sensor below the dials that's causing the problem. I'll try to find out......

Mine does this too. It's a pain in the ****. Looks like a warranty issue.
