Cool

Firstly, thanks to the guys who responded to my last plea for help, as I am so new to Subaru's, it was much appreciated.
The car has just completed it's first 1000 miles, and is booked in for it's first service next week. Can anyone advise on what sort of fuel consumption I should be getting. The car is mainly used on the motorway, and I have been driving at 70 - 80 mph, honest, and I only seem to be averaging about 20-24 mpg. Is there anything the local dealer can do which will help, without loosing too much power?
Thanks for your help.

Cool

20-24 NEVER seen that high.
I have a UK MY99 (bog standard) and get 150 to 180 miles on a tank, but Iam a middle age old git in mid life crisis.
My Turbo pulls in when its warm and fifth gear is for double white lines I only ever got over 200mpg when the wife comes with me as the 'G' force makes here sick.
On the track I did get 7.2 mph on £0.99p SUL per Ltr

Tony

edited because BOB (with the dog kennel for a back box) noticed I put 200mph, Whoops meant mpg

T5NYW/ A std MY99 will not do 200 mph. I have had my rev's lifted to 7300 but the car still won't go over 160 mph.
My last car MY98 always gave 300 miles to the tank (about 51LTS) This one will not get much over 200 miles to the tank.

From fill to fill (about 50 litres) best was 292 miles, worse 220 miles(heavy right foot)

Are you guys driving at full revs ALL THE TIME or is the tank smaller on the WRX? (My car my98uk)

From what I read the comsumption on the 2001 is supposed to be 29mpg (average), I know the figures are always high, but to be that much lower in real driving??

I have a UK MY99 standard 4 door, and best run was around 300 miles on a full tank (driving up the west coast of Scotland - so, not all motorway).

Always get 200+ though.

Cheers Guys, maybe I am just kidding myself to think I may be able to get more than 24 mpg. Oh well, it was worth asking, if only to read the comical responses.
Thanks.

Darren,
No it's not just you,I've got a my01 & am presently "Running it in",I'm averaging 24.5 mpg & that is genuinely not exeeding 4000rpm, most of the time at least.
It's a long 1000 miles, but somebodys got to do it.

Ok Darren - i had a similar problem on my WRX MY01. I was getting 16.5 - 21mpg !!!!

I took it back to the dealers - they performed some miracle on the car - it now boosts constantly to 0.9 bar (was peeking at .7 in 2nd and 3rd gear before) and im now getting 24.5 mpg on the trip i used to be lucky to get 20mpg!

So go to the dealers and complain - worked for me.

One other thing tho - ive done 3000 miles now and the cars noticably looser - but that may be an afterproduct of the work the garage did!!

Darren.....I get around 26mpg generally on the WRX 01 wagon...same as my ex-MY00...mixed driving. I'm told as they loosen, the mpg will improve. Best I ever got was 320 + on 50litres during the fuel crisis last year on the 00. Drove from Yorkshire to Kent at 65 - 70mph and accelerated gently. No fun though!

Rgds,

Rich

Hi Darren,
This does seem very heavy fuel consumption.
Am running a MY00 and on normal week get about 265 to a tank , when running with octane booster get about 300 and this is all done driving within the M25.I do about 500 miles a week.
On a long motorway run always get over 300 mile to a tank.
Went over to France on business last week and covered 345 before filling up, and I was'nt hanging about.
This is with decat downpipe and exhaust and a few other sundry mods.

Grant

happy motoring .
