Question

I've been told that I'll need some sort of tracking system for my new car. (Or else they won't insure me!!)

Any ideas??

I have Tracker 24hour Monitor at the moment, but there are so many out there now!!

Best one by far is the system operated by Tracker. There are receivers in all Police Traffic cars, the helicopter as well as number of the other response vehicles.

Autoexpress issue 593 (mid-march) reviewed ½ a dozen systems.

1st place went to the Telematix EGUARD Executive spikey mentions (www.telematix.co.uk 0845 604 2022).

its not cheap though....£820 total costs for install, 1st yrs subscription and the watching fee.

can i assume its a new scooby andy ? what insurance company is telling you to get a tracker or they wont insure you ?

i got my new scooby last wed and of the 5-7 companies i tried only 1 wanted a tracker and none of the others would reduce the premium if i fitted one !

in the autoexpress tests Navtrak (www.navtrak.com) came second (£540) and the RAC Trackstar Guardian (www.ractrackstar.com) came 3rd (£700).

Of these 3 only the Telematix one works outside of the UK.

cheers

I have had Tracker fitted to my last 3 cars.I now have the Tracker moniter system fitted and whilst this allows the Tracker people to inform you if your car dissapears you do need a mobile phone so that you can be reached on one of the three phone numbers you give, so that if you are away from home/office or out at night they can still reach you.

Steve,

It's a nearly new car. Just got a bit of a result that's all. So my MY97 (56k) is being swapped for a MY99 (5k)!!

It's not that they won't insure me, but it works out in my favour!!

I'm paying £1200 for my current car with my current broker. They wanted an extra £400 for the new car, with only 6 months to run on the policy!

Greenlight are quoting me £825 with ANY tracking system! And that's without my current years NCB!!

Silver,

Had Tracker Monitor before, so I know about which numbers to leave, and to give them someone else's number if you're on holiday! But thanks for the info!!

Cheers
Andy

Have to say IMHO that RAC Trackstar has got to be the one.

TRACKER = Big Brother!! Be careful, they're watching you. They know where you are, when you are and who you are. This is how they will confirm your location when speeding, to control your speed and to charge you tolls in the future.........Be Warned!!!

andy

wot sort of deal you getting on it ? got a friend looking for a 2nd hand one at the moment and there aint a lot down this way...Devon

greenlight price sounds ok if thats before applying your NCB ?

best i got was £680 with full protected NCB. Went with a friend of mine in the end as he is local for £717. This also gives me cover to use the car for work which is good cos they have pool ford mondeo estates in white with no sunroof or nothing. and they are diesels !

i'm 31 with 1 accident 1½ yrs ago...not my fault but could not trace the other driver so i had to claim on my insurance Standard MY00 4 door.

i'm getting a disklock but not going to worry about a tracker for now.

cheers
