Question

Should I be using SUL in my 95 WRX RA like the STI`S or can I get away with UL. The reason that I am asking is cos there are no SUL garages in my area. I heard that STI can tend to melt pistion cos of the RON differenses between us and the Japs. Further more hase any one noticed any difference using the spray for the intercooler. Ive not.Chers Greg

SUL with no shadow of a doubt! All import cars are designed to run on 100 ron so you need at least 98 ron.
Cheers,
Jon.

95 is fine for the WRX engine plus factory ECU. Both my knock sensor and dealer (who gets to foot the bill if he's wrong!) agree. Only use 98 if you're driving at full chat all the time. If you can't get 98 then use 1 liter Silkolene Pro-Boost per tankfull.

MMM. Two different answers hear. I too thought that UL was ok for the WRX but what about the RA? The RA has a higher rev limmit than my mates WRX and I was wondering if the RA engine is set up more like the STI which does req SUL.Any ideas. Also is there a oil cooler on them? I cant find a rad or is there a water/oil heat exchanger somewhere?

Greg,

I have got a 95 WRX RA and I have always put Super in it - apart from the last fill-up.

I put in normal UL just to see if I could notice any difference - and the answer is yes. The engine didn't feel quite as crisp as with SUL in it.

I had my car in for it's 30k service yesterday at Lockyear Cars in Horsham and the service bloke said it isn't worth risking normal UL in any Jap-spec Subaru.

I will continue to fill up with SUL.

.....About the oil cooler......There is no oil cooler (rad type) and I don't think there is a water/oil exchnager either.

Cheers,

Simon
