I've seen the name banded about recently... Are they these three groove slicks? Like a slick with tread?

Incedentally, I noticed that my three groovers don't actually state "Not for road use" ....... I'm not gonna go there...... but.....

Moulded slicks are basically slicks with a tread pattern moulded in at manufacture time examples are things like the Yokohama A032R and alot of the other R rated tyres are like this.

Tyres with a minimum amount of tread 17% I think are required by the FIA for rallying now.

Going on Darrens answer, if you have this months evo mag, look at the elise that is owned by Adrian Newey - the BBR Turbo conversion. His tyres are Dunlop Formula R, which look like slicks with a slight groove. Road legal, but look more like a huge motorbike tyre than a car tyre.

I saw those Dunlops! Do you think they'll be cheap? :-)

Bring back the Yoko A008 for cars that aren't minis!

That would have been a great trackday tyre!

I'm currently getting prices for these tyres (as well as hard compound slicks) for people going to Cadwell Park. I'll post the prices up on the thread in the Events section when I hear back later today.

OK, here are the tyre prices (all inclusive of VAT, fitting balancing etc)

Yokohama A520 205/50VR16 £332 for 4
Yokohama A520 205/50WR16 £420 for 4
Yokohama A520 215/40WR17 £428 for 4

You can no longer get the A008R in 205/50 x 16, so there is the choice of:

Yokohama A032R 205/55x16 £140 each, £560 for 4
Dunlop D98J 205/50x16 £144 each, £576 for 4
Dunlop D98J 225/45x16 £174 each, £696 for 4

You do not get a lower profile with the same width. All the above sizes will fit wheels from between 6x16 to 7.5x16

Can't get the Dunlop Formula R tyres in a suitable size.

Slicks:

Michelin 18/62-16 S4B compound £72.85 each, £291.40 for 4
Michelin 18/62-16 TA40 harder compound £82.25 each £329 for 4

Michelin slicks also availble for 17 inch rims, at £150 each including VAT.

These prices seem quite good to me (particularly the 17 inch A520s), and even the slick prices seem reasonable. Can we have a show of hands on here or via e-mail to john@stewart.vhost.co.uk by interested parties. If there is enough interest, then they will come to Cadwell Park with enough stock, though you would need to pre-order slicks etc

For more specific details on the tyres or if you are interested in mail order, then contact Rhona at Wheels Around on 01764 662897

If people are looking for tyres for track days, why not look in the classifieds in Motoring News or similair for second hand tyres. There are usually loads for sale and most are in pretty good condition. You usually find that they are left overs from when someone has sold a car, abandoned a project or destroyed their car! Second hand racing tyres probably won't have much wear on them and will be ideal for a load of track days unless you give them major grief.
