Air Filters

If you are happy to accept increased induction noise (and maybe a slightly better end result) go for an induction kit. I have an ITG panel filter (£40 + Vat from Scoobysport) which is like the Ramair filter but has a metal gauze for rigidity and is also cheaper. 290 bhp and 258 lb ft speaks for itself although I don't have any 'before' figures. The car felt quicker, particularly at the top end and there is increased ability to run on with a trailing throttle. Fuel consumption is better too, 1 mpg perhaps.

We are seeing number of problems on cars with oil impregnated foam filters.
The oul comes out of the filter as a mist and burns on the hot wire causing incorrect output from the sensor.
I have just come back from Japan and they were shocked that we did not know this. They have not used them seriously for sometime.
Use a paper or K&N style filter for element type or the dry BLITZ stainless steel mess induction kit.

Kevin, Dunno has got a ver4 sti, is that a 99 model? here in holland we don't have sti's so I'm no expert in this field. It is now 9.30u and I,m gonna pick up my 57i filter .I'm hoping it will sound very dramatic.

57i kit not yet available for my99 . I was down at warrington last week getting my car measured up for it.they told me that subaru had enlarged the air intake (this is where the extra 4 bhp came from). 4 to 8 weeks for production and mine will be free yippee.also going to send me a panel filter while waiting. cannot wait to see my car on the instructions my only claim for worldwide fame and i am not on the photo boo hoo.

I'm planning on changing the air filter on my '94 WRX sports wagon, and from what I read it seems that the ITG is the best buy...is there a specific part number for this model ?? Thanx..

I am thinking about 57i or Pipercross induction kits for my MY98. Does the oil problem affect these kits? I already have a K+N panel filter and Janspeed rear box and the car produces 246BHP and 230 torque on Power Engineering Dyno - can I expect any increase on this with the induction kit and a dump valve?
