MY02 WRX Idling at 500 rpm
#2
It holds about 750 then slowly drops to 450-500 rpm. It never goes below that though. I have checked that the air filter is seated correctly and that the MAf is clean - anyone have any ideas?

Yes i have an idea, stop p#ssing about with it and bring it over for me to have a look, you cant even be trusted to fit an air filter.Have you checked all the induction hoses as it sounds like one of them has come off or is loose.

According to the service manual, idle speed is 700+-100 RPM with no load, 800+-100 RPM with AC on.
500 RPM is abnormal, Subaru engines don't tend to idle well at 500 RPM.
Note that a lot of Subaru rev counters have a 500 RPM division just after 0 RPM which is thicker and longer than the 100 RPM divisions.

My03 WRX idle's at 500rpm is that wrong ?? it's completly standard
The very first mark you see on the revcounter scale is zero. Immediately above that is the 500rpm marker. Thus, if your needle is reading half way between the second mark and a thousand, your idle is around 750 rpm, not 500.
If it genuinely is idling at 500, you should either have a look round for loose or leaking pipes around the inlet manifold, or else get straight down to the dealer and get them to sort it.
