"Scoobysport" downpipe
#1
Hi, you all !
I get my first Impreza Turbo in July'99, and I already have a Scoobysport backbox & RamAir filter.
These things I put one when I get my car.
Now I'm thinking of a Scoobysport "Downpipe",
Is it wise to fit it when the car is new ?
Or is it NOT wise to fit it at all ?
Is there someone who know the answers ?
I'm just killing time till my car arrives,....and it's hard !

Well dont worry about installing a downpipe for your car. It wont affect break-in of your new engine. Many sporty cars, have downpipes already installed. It just makes a happy engine smile just a bit more. I say go for it! and enjoy your new scoob.

Hi Mr. BlueSteel,
I spoke to Wim Pruys in The Netherlands last week (he's the distributor for ScoobySport in The Netherlands), because I want to have a ScoobySport backbox and downpipe fitted on my MY98. He told me that the downpipe won't hardly give you any gain (only a lot more noise). The backbox, however, is a very good investment. It looks well, it sounds well and the (measured) gain of ScoobySport backbox + Ramair filter + SUL98 = 17 PS (15 or 16 BHP).
Cheers,
Ruud.

The downpipe is excellent. I haven't been back on the rollers since mine was fitted, so I don't know if or by how much it affects the figures.
However, it makes the car so much more responsive. It's hard to believe that a pipe can make so much difference, but it allows the turbo to get spinning much more freely and so earlier.
The aural effect is a little bit more noise, but not as much as the backbox and you can hear the turbo whistle much more if you open the windows.

I have just fitted a scoobysport backbox to my99 5 door at the weekend. yes the exhaust does sound a bit louder but it also sounds very nice and the only time it gets load is when you are canning it down country lanes and who cares then. if you are worried try putting dynamat under the boot carpet. this may help or otherwise enjoy the sound.

Also - something I wasn't aware of until recently - if you fit the scoobysport backbox and don't like it for any reason, return it within (a week? a month? can't remember) and get a full refund ...
So there's no excuse for not getting one
Personally I like to drive the mountain roads with the rear windows down, and the glorious music bouncing off the rockface ...

I like opening all the windows when I'm on the M4 in heavy traffic, listening to the glorious music bouncing off the central reservation armco
