Question

Give me the basics on fitting a dawes race-kit to a MY99 uk turbo please guys...
I want to fit it before the beano to the I.O.W. tomorrow so make it idiot proof please
I have knock sensor and display fitted which I figured was the most important one for increasing boost.
I have boost gauge fitted to monitor and/or set up.
I have AFR (not yet fitted), but this was to establish O2/MAF problems so can I fit dawes without AFR in place or is it better to wait>?
Cheers guys

Andy

I'd want all the measuring devices in place before I started playing with a Dawes device. Don't rush into it, as engines are expensive!

I know Dyney has used a Dawes device on his car, so you could have a quick word with him on Saturday...

I don't think an AFR meter in-car is that much more useful than the knocklink, if it's an MY99/00 we're talking about. Lean AFR's lead to det so you'll pick it up either way. I have a Dawes with KL but no AFR incar (Got deltadash for fault diagnosis and investigating any abnormal KL activity). IMHO if your MAF is fully functional you'll be fine just fitting the Dawes and letting rip I've used Dawes with 0.5 and 1.5mm bleed holes and only had AFR/det problems when I fitted an induction kit without realising my MAF was also failing. The extra boost above 5000rpm released with the induction kit in combination with the failing MAF misreading even more lead to det at 5500-6000rpm. New MAF has fixed it and allowed me to up the boost back to 1.3bar held, with 1 bar at 6300rpm.

Lovely

Simon

Edited to say just realised you aren't sure your MAF is fully functional, so maybe get someone with deltadash to do a quick check before you fit the Dawes

select monitor said it was a bit up and down on the readings but within tolerances, a case for a refund from the cowboy who sold it too me or just the way the are sir?

Andy, I'm not the best person to ask about Dawes devices as I don't currently use one. However, thanks to the good work done by others in the past, you will probably find everything you need to know here.

BTW, speaking personally, I wouldn't install any boost raising device without an AFR meter on the car, especially if the supposedly brand new MAF sensor is only "within tolerances". Better to be safe than sorry; move in haste, repent at leisure, and several other clichés probably apply here.
