The fins on the intercooler on my STi5 seem to be incredibly soft, you can bend them easily with your finger ! Does anyone know what alternatives there are for prevention of this please ? I must admit, it is the only thing I've found with the car that is not much cop.

There are intercooler protection grilles, STi ones and even instructions somewhere on the list that explain how to DIY, I dont know how much an STi one would be from say Graham Goode, but i doubt it would be cheap. But it may be worth it in the long run, ie cheaper than a new Intercooler.

I am having the same problem with my STI5, I think that you could get a piece of wire mesh and secure it over the intercooler to stop anything hard from hitting it.

I bought a stainless steel mesh intercooler protection grill for my UK MY97 Turbo from David Hendry. It was about £50.00 inc P & P from memory.

Fitting was easy and took about ten minutes. You need a drill a some spanners to fit it.

It looks good, protects the intercooler and doesn't noticable restrict the cooling

Regards,

Ian

Thanks gents, £50 seems an awful lot for such an item, but as you say, better than a bent intercooler.
