I'm sure I have seen this one before but cannot find it again.

I have a problem on my WRX in that when I am traveling at high speed, (about 4500-5000rpm in top.) and I go to floor it further the engine seems to cut out rather violently. Has any one had similar experiences, is it some thing obvious?

If any one is worried, this was over in Germay at the weekend and therefor totaly legal.

Ta, Spence.

SPENCE,the fault sounds like the waste gate solenoid valve is sticking if the valve senses a high boost it will cut the ignition and fuel you will notice a sudden loss of power, the valve can be cleaned out with brake cleaner this usually works.

In Germany, yesterday evening, my 240ps 93 WRX sounds like it did the same thing - foot to floor at 5000ish rpm, loss of pretty much all power, and CHECK ENGINE warning light came on. I pulled over, light went out, popped the bonnet (like you do), scratched my head a few times, then drove off - everything seemingly OK again - bizarre.

Planting my foot suddenly in any gear, the surge of power is not smooth, peaking and troughing right up to redline - the engine seems to much prefer a gentle "press" of the pedal. Any ideas what's going on? Is this typical lag behaviour (I'm new to this turbo game)? The car's done 29k miles, and I'm on super unleaded all the time (though can't vouch for the previous owner).

Cheers,
Zip

I had a similar problem when i first got my '95 STi - it turned out that the spark plugs were past their best. A full service cured it.

I'm having this problem with MY93 WRX. Is the solenoid easy to get to? I'm new to imprezas so if anyone can describe where to find it i'll have a job for the weekend.

I've had the same problem with my 98 UK Turbo. First at 1,500 miles and now this morning at 14,000. Just spoken to my local dealer and he tells me there is now a modification. Shame he can't do the 1/2 hours work until 8th March!
