Just bought MY94 4dr Turbo with 40000 miles and full subaru history. FANTASTIC car except a noise from engine that sounds like the heater fan on setting 1 or 2. Only happens when moving, dont think it is the brakes, sounds more like induction noise. Help!

if there was a problem with the engine it would usually be there whether the car was being driven or not,has the car had a induction kit fitted if so some are quite noisy on acceleration.the front brake pads have a metal indicator that touches the brake disc when the pads are low this can make a noise which would only be present when the vehicle was moving.check the brake fluid level if this has dropped its quite possible that the pads are low,
i will be working tomorrow if you want to give me a ring peter.0161 224 1431.

Thanks, Peter. Car alledgedly had new pads fitted on purchase and I dont think it has an induction kit - noise stays at constant level rather than getting louder, it may even be normal - about the same level as the heater on setting 1 to 2.

As I was trying to say earlier, could it
be the 4WD system? I get this noise and I
took it to be the gears meshing.

Hi, does the noise have a characteristic that increases in frequency when the engine revs ?
