what benefit does having a boost controller offer besides being able to control the boost..why would one want to control the boost?

Is an after market blowoff valve that much better than the standard,if yes...which supplier makes one which is 'quiet' the one I have heard is so loud..it is embarassing.

why on earth would u need a boost gauge other than to feed one's ego...one the run there's no time to look anyway.

All in reference are equipment offered by ApeXi...comments ppl? :-)

A boost controller is used to increase standard boost. Inturn it will increase yr bhp. Moreover it is fun to have a little extra fr the next guy. Possibility is the next guy has the same gizmo as yourself.

Aftermarket blowoff valve does the same job as the original equipment. Basically people buy them for the sound. Why are u embarrasssed by the sound. Once u heard it couple of times u will tend to like it more and more.

At times the boost controller may not be as accurate as the vacuum meter for the boost. It also indicates what boost u are running at and in turn helps u not to go above the safety guidelines of boodsting the engine as you may not have sufficient fuel to maintain high boost all the time. Moreover it is an indicator and warning if there is overboosting. u do not want to blow yr engine right.

Some people say that externally venting valves are bad cause they confuse the ECU. Something to do with the A/F meter reading the air flow before it is vented. Thus it thinks there is more air in the system than there is - therefore richer fuel mixture. This site has a bit more info http://www.MRTrally.com.au/frames2.htm

The standard valve is doin the same job anyway so why bother changin??

In my opinion it's a complete waste of time replacing the factory dump valve (unless it breaks that is - which is not uncommon), and as for considering fitting a valve that vents to atmosphere ... well! ... Not only is it likely to degrade performance, as Jon suggests, but that ridiculous noise will erode the current respectable image that the Impreza has. No offence but using a name like "speedrat" ... I rest my case!
