Just come back from the garage trying to put on the decat downpipe, but the couldn't get all the bolts off the turbo to d/p. Do you normally have to take off the out the turbo to undo the bolts?

He said there are 5 bolts, and he got 2 of them off, 2 of them he couldn't get to, and 1 had seized, and even after heating up with a torch, he couldn't get it off. What can he do??? Help, please!!!

There are 5 bolts. I've found it best when the bolts are warm, not hot and I've used lots and lots of WD-40 - left to soak in well.

He's gonna have to be careful else they will shear

Yeah, but do you have to take out the turbo to do it? Because he's saying that he can't get to 2 of the bols at all.

Does anyone know a garage that will fit a decat on MY98 around Birmingham? My garage is now saying one of the bolts is seized up, and he can't get it off without risking of snapping it. He doesn't want to do that, so not willing to do it anymore.

I need someone to do it for me ASAP! Thanks

Try using a ring spanner but with a ninty degree end on it certain places sell them this gave me more access than a straight ended ring spanner.I also found two of the nuts seized on the studs , used a dremel to carefully cut into each side of the nut and then chiseled them off and cleaned the thread on the stud back up with a dia good as new. I did not want to force them either in fear of snapping the studs and then having to take the turbo off and drilling the snapped studs out.

Good luck ps it did not take that long to cut them using the dremel and would recommend this way you have to take the intercooler off this gives you more space

i have an MY98

changed my DP twice now, first time was last summer.

1. Remove IC
2. Remove Heatshield
3. Soak all nuts in WD40 (leave overnight)
4. using a ring spanner undo 2 nuts on top, 1 on IC side & 1 on brake resevoir side.
5. get under car, using a spanner or a socket & ext. with a wobble joint on it undo bottom nut.
6. remove DP & change over - cut heatshield as required.

I found that when i used a spanner, i used another ring spanner on it as an extension to gain more leverage.

theres no need to remove the turbo, all nuts are accessible, if not fidly. be prepared to take a while undoing the underneath nuts. ie mm's at a time.

You can get to all of the bolts with the turbo in, I have done it and many others have. Just unlucky that your bolts are seized, I soaked mine in plus gas (Penetrating fluid) came undo fairly easy with a wrench or wrecking bar. You will have to modify the heat sheild slightly to get it back on, basically cut a chunk of the rear left by wastegate (Looking in from the bonnet).
I know of places around my area that would fit it for you but surely there will be somewhere local
