Got to agre with Dan.
Best to use N.F. if you can get it. 1ml per litre will probably be enough ie 50mls to 50 litre of Shell Optimax. Failing that, Millars Octane Plus, one bottle to a tank. Costs about £3.50 for a bottle or £3.00 for ten at a time. The Millars CVL is not a cost effective option.
See Knowlesy to check your fault codes. You will find him helpful.

Hello all,
I picked up my Jap import WRX RA 2 days ago and have a couple of questions.
Ive just done my first tank refill and I used Optimax plus STP octane booster from Halfords... anyone have experience of using this combination? Should I be using another octane booster?
Secondly the car runs very well and very smoothly, however I have noticed on a cold start... first night it was on my driveway (Too lasy to clear garage lol), when I started it in the morning the check engine light lit up from startup and then went off after approximately 2 mins from startup, and never reappeared.
The second night it was garaged (I made room :P) and in the morning on a cold start the check engine light came on for about 40 seconds and then never reappeared for the duration of the day.
Should I get it to Xtream in chelmsford asap to check my Error code, or is this pretty much the norm for scoobs? Anything to worry about?
Im heading there soon for a rolling road check and a chat soon anyway.
Your knowlegable comments appreciated
Cheers
Andrew

Have you read the back of the octane booster bottle as i think some stuff is not safe for cars with either a CAT or oxygen sensor...
The prefered stuff is either
NF octane booster
you can also get millers

Guess its ok..
DIRECTIONS: Pour entire contents into full gas tank. Firmly replace cap on empty bottle and discard in trash or recycle. Safe for catalytic converters and oxygen sensors. Contains no alcohol. May be used in combination with other STP® fuel additives.
Thanks for replying though

I had the same thing with my 93 wrx when I first got it. Did it for some time, would come on after start up for a while, would go out after I revved the engine. After a while got worse, would go out after revving but come straight back on. After I found out how to dump fault codes turned out to be knock sensor. It was code 22. After checking found knock sensor to be loose. Simple to tighten, just need a long extension and rachet. 10mm socket for the 6mm bolt which goes through the middle of the sensor. It`s located on the passenger side of the engine at the base of the cylinders. It`s to the rear of the inlet manifold and it`s round with the bolt through the middle. hope all this helps, might save you some money. Regards Roy.
