Apparantly it's the wing-mirror! In certain side winds, etc this can happen....Bit crap on a high-speed car though, isn't it? Wouldn't catch a Beemer doing that (sorry, I'll wash my mouth out )

Question

Strange one this - first proper high speed run in my wrx - hit an indicated 130ish and this really loud, high pitched whine started. I came off the power and as the speedo dropped back down to about 120, the noise went away. Any ideas? I nearly crapped myself when it happened.

One thing I was thinking it could be....the aerial was about 3/4 extended and I was thinking it could be some sort of resonance noise from the aerial in the wind?

Ahh

thats the vortex created from the negative pressure building up under the car,

basically what happens next is the car goes supersonic and the resulting bang takes out yer windows...

Know the feeling,,, mine sounds like the diffs are whining in the front, but in the rear all is quiet
no noise evident....

you need to do a rerun with a pasenger to check imho!!!

It's all very odd - previous fast cars I've owned have not done anything similar. Wind noise is one thing, but this was really loud - I'll try it with the aerial down and with passengers to see if I can track it down.

Not much good for autobahn driving
