LEGACY GTB BLOWN
#1
My engine (98k with fukk dealer history)has let go at 85mph on the motorway.
The car was brought in to the country in 98 by Prodrive and been well looked after since as I have lots of dealer history.
I have been trawling through lots of threads and am concerned that I could be the problem by using super unleaded only for the 5k i've owned the vehicle.
Engine is now out and bottom of a plug is smashed.
Looks like its dropped a valve or pulled something in.
How do you know if the vehicle ECU has been re-mapped to run on UK fuel.
Help / advice much appreciated.

Leachy,
Mines got 83k on it, been in the UK all it's life.
The previous onwer ran it on 95&97 ron fuel.
I've had it for the last 10-15k and run it on 97& optimax.
To my knowledge it's never been re-mapped.
The fact that it's has a suspected dropped a valve, IMO points towards a mechanical problem, rather than fuel.
Unfortunateley there's limited knowledge on scoobynet, regarding Legacy TTs.
The 'legacyb4' site on yahoo groups, is a dedicated TT site.
You may have more response there.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.
Det is the #1 killer, but other things can go wrong of course. Can you get pics of the damage? Maybe an oil test?
As for mapping for UK fuel, I don't know about that. ECUTek is working on it for the later cars, but don't know if anyone did the TT back then (when it had JECS control). Have the MAF checked tho - they can go and cause some damage (assuming yours is a BH with the weak one). If it is on the way out, or gone, the 99/00 MAF from the WRX is the same.
Best of luck.
