Question

I want to get an ITG or Green Cotton panel filter for my 03 WRX - will it invalidate my warranty?

Keep the one you take out and refit if a problem.

Don't use the oil based one though as they tend to knacker the MAF sensor

I,ve just had a service done on my 99 uk turbo at my regular Subaru dealer and on checking the work (as you do) I noticed that the Genuine Subaru panel air filter has oil on it ???, So I would think that the itg should be fine (again keep the original to refit just in case).

I changed my airfilter to an ITG one more or less as soon as I bought my scoob. When it went for it's first service, I told them I had changed the filter so they didn't need to replace it with a standard one. They were fine about it. It's also been back since I've had the turbo timer fitted, and that wasn't a problem either.

Don't turbo timers turn a cat1 alarm into a normal alarm? Have you told your insurance?

Be carefull with the ITG filter my MAF is on its way out because of contamination from the ITG, my car is an MY01 and it has had the filter in for 25K with what i thought was no problems until it was delta dashed on Saturday and found the MAF is over fuelling on idle.

A new one is being fitted today as a matter of course with an STI air filter to stop it happening again.

Nobody we knew of has had a failure on the 01 models due to the ITG but it is definately the cause.

Sorry about the multiple posts guys - my computer went AWOL and crashed in the middle of me sending ....

Thanks Zippy - so where can I get an STi Air Filter from and will it give me the same small power gain as the ITG?

Mark, from your dealer £23 all in.
I havent tried my car yet as my MAF sensor is waiting to be changed
but for the supposed gains given by the ITG i would stick with a genuine filter and as the MAF sensor for the bug eye model is £320+ Vat make your own decision.

Since joining you guys a couple of weeks ago, the majority of posts regarding air filters suggest the ITG is the best replacement, based on price, performance and reliability. I was recommended ITG over a full induction replacement because the MAF was less likely to pack it's bags. So, before I start modifying, are we saying the MAF is less likely to screw with an ITG compared to a full induction replacement, but more likely to screw with an ITG compared to the standard filter (or other panel filters)...?

Regarding warranty, I was told by the franchise dealer that air filter and exhaust upgrades wouldn't invalidate the Proven warranty, but tinkering (what a great word!) with the ECU would.
