Yes or no?

New MY99 has Prodrive exhaust + unknown VTA, but seems to have less 'shove' than previous MY97 with no mods. Getting about 2 more mpg if that's significant.

I know some DV's have different stength springs (I could be talking out of my @rse here). Would that make a difference?

Grateful for any advice.

Steve.

hi mate!i have 99my and i lost some power through fitting after market dump valve.this was because it was leeking at the gasket where the intercooler bolts to the dump valve.make sure this is properley sealed then problem solved!

In some cases if the spring is too weak then boost will be lost. I have had this problem myself, with a brand new adjustable dump valve. I had a feeling that my old dump valve was losing boost so bought a new one only to find that after it had bedded in i was down on power, but with the new one being adjustable i tightened the spring and gained about 2psi. One of the symptoms was that it was "dumping" too early ( about 2k). It now dumps at about 3.5-4k.

Thanks for info. Given that I don't know make, how would I go about tightening spring? Pic (hopefully) below, big thanks to Buzz for posting it to his website!

Check that the hose is secured correctly, and has no splits anywhere.

That is deffinatly the OE recirc DV on the car.

Thanks IanW, was sold as having dump valve by Subaru Mansfield. Was convinced as old MY97 had recirc which definitely didn't sound the same! Is there any other fault that could account for the noise if not the DV? On low boost-off it makes more of a swwwwiiiish than a pish - if that helps!!!!!!!!!

Come to think of it, from drivers point of view, DV noise definitely comes from right hand side of engine (windows closed) - this would suggest another DV, surely not?!! Could someone have fitted a valve after the intercooler as well as before???? Very inexperienced in this area, but nothing wrong with my hearing............... if so what am I looking for? I'll take another photo but I might be stretching Buzz's patience to post for me as he owes me diddly-squat..............

Question

Has the car got an induction kit or an uprated panel filter?

The noise comes from the right because the noise 'escapes' from the induction kit, although it's 'created' by the BOV!
And the induction kit'll be on the right...

Last 2 posts correct, unknown (suspected K&N) induction kit fitted. In the immortal words of Bart Simpson, "...this both sucks and blows".

Back to square 1 then in search for apparent low boost.

Thanks though.

Thought about this some more. The 'dump' noise is instant on throttle release, how come I didn't get same instant release on previous turbo with panel filter? If it's a recirc valve then as the name suggests the air should be recirculated........ somewhere..... surely?

Also, induction kit must be designed to filter one way only, or am I missing the point?

What route does the dumped air take (looking at photo) - does it bypass intercooler?

The dunped air gets routed back into the air inlet, a few cm in front of the turbo inlet (so only a few cm 'behind' an induction kit, which is why it can be heard!).
And it should be immediate on throttle release!
The car doesn't do it from standard because it has not only the panel filter, but also a resonator box in the wing that reduces the noise dramatically.
So that bit, I think, is working correctly anyway
