My car has just had its 1 year service. Since this I have noticed a drop-off in performance. The car feels sluggish and the turbo doesnt seem to spool up as quickly. The car feels like it did when I put a dodgy ITG filter in once. I have spoke to the garage and they have confirmed that they only replaced the oil and filter. They have suggeseted that I have the ECU reset - although the MY02 WRX ECU is supposed to be self learning. Does anyone have any ideas...........

Cheers

Did you have a STi courtesy car?

I had my one year service (15,000 miles), possibly at the same place, and didn't notice any changes.

"only replaced the oil and filter" - that's a good start - check how much oil has been put in and if it's been overfilled

I've just got mine back and I supplied my own oil - they used approx 5.5 litres and the owner's manual says it takes 4.5...

even if some is needed to fill the new filter, they shouldn't have used approx 1 litre extra (unless someone's used some for something else )

if it is overfilled, then the sump has a higher oil level in it and the crankshaft / big ends have more to plough through as they spin, i.e. more resistance and hence less oomph...

best thing is to let oil cool down and settle before checking it - don't do like I once did and drove car out of garage with oil stone cold and check it it hadn't had time to run back to sump so I thought I'd got a big leak

Funny you should mention oil as this time I got them to put in Fully Synthetic Shell Helix Ultra whereas before it was semi?? The only other thing that has changed is that my wheels now have 2 locking wheel nuts on each wheel - They are spaced opposite sides of the wheel to each other???
