I have noticed today and last week when it was pretty hot, that after the car has warmed up (STi V2)and been driven hard, the engine check light comes on, and when it cools down it dissapears....

If i'm driving off boost it does not appear

What can it be?, i have checked the oil and water, they seem to be fine....interms of the mods, it has a induction kit, a full de-cat and a dump valve.
Its a 95 Version 2 STi.....

Cheers Guys

Bit of a long shot, but is/are your cooling fan(s) knackered?

Obvious thing to do would be to connect the read memory connectors and get the CEL code. That way, no guessing

I have tried the memory connectors and the engine light does come on and flashes at different intervals, but to find out the fault code, do i have to wait til the engine light goes off?

No, you're supposed to be doing all of this with the engine off, BTW. Turn the ignition to the "On" position, but don't start the engine!

The CEL is telling you the fault code(s). Long flashes are 10's, short flashes are 1's.

So, if you see 4 long flashes, 3 short, 2 long and 3 short, then a repeat of the same pattern, it's saying it's recorded an error 43 and an error 23. If there are multiple errors stored, it'll give you all of them in sequence then repeat, so you've got to make a note of the entire flash sequence til it starts repeating itself.

Then all you need do is look up what the codes mean. There are a couple of websites detailing this, but I'm in the office ATM and don't have the links handy. Either way, I'm sure searching here on the words "error" and "codes" will get you a key...

OK...Engine was turned off...I have checked and noted the codes down... i have 2, i noticed a 1.8 second wait until the next pulse, seemed a little more..

1.3-1.3-1.2-1.2 (then a wait 1.8 sec?) 1.3-1.3-1.2-1.2-1.2-1.2

so that would suggest its fault code

22 & 24

knock sensor & Idle air control solenoid

What are they both??
Is it because both cats have been removed??
Where do i go from here??, any shortcuts??
