has anybody got an opinion on cambelt (or whatever it's called) changes?

the scoob's coming up to 3 years old and has just over 30k on the clock. According to the service booklet it needs to be done at 3 years/45k?

it's also an MY00 so does this mean I wait until 45k (which could then be four years!) or 60k???

any opinions gratefully recieved!

Thumbs up

Get the dealer to check but it's probably 60k or 4 yrs which ever comes first, being an MY00 (like mine) I will get it done at 48months, (even though the car will only have done about 20k).
Don't skimp on it though as cost of cambelt fitting is far less than cost of new engine !!!

I have to agree, get the dealer to check, but in my opinion i'd get it done at whichever interval comes first.

I think the Turbo engine is a low-compression non-interference design so if your cam belt snaps, the engine should be ok.

The same can't be said of my 205 a while back which needed 8 new valves as they all got bent

I would not like to test that idea out-of non interference that is.

Best change on time or miles whichever comes first. Just not worth risking the failure.

MrDBM,
I had my MY00 serviced at Pro Sport in Stockport, for a full service inc cambelt and MOT, it cost me just under 400 quid (about 397quid i think), a dealer will possably charge you 450-500 without the MOT.

You can still damage the valves I think due to their angles to each other.

At the end of the day though, even though it's rare, you wouldn't want it to snap

I'm looking at replacing mine the the Power Enterprise Super Strong Cambelt to make sure it's solid as a rock, but nobody UK based, except one company, can seem to get them and even then it will take them two weeks and £150. I can get the same thing myself from japan in 4 days at around £100
