DUMP VALVE/ COOLANT SMELL
#1
Started getting a coolant/radiator kind of smell today, but have had both my header tank and radiator replaced last week. Checked the obvious pipes that i can see and no leaks but are there any pipes i should check that aren't so obvious.
While i was checking for leaks noticed that the dump valve was open (the little saucer type thing that you can see through the holes in the side of the dump valve that lets the pressure out).
I revved the engine and it closed and then opened when i let the throttle off and stayed open. I'm pretty sure this is not right, I thought that it is supposed to stay closed until there is enough pressure to force it open, but it has been a while since i looked at it so can't be sure.I was wondering if perhaps the two peoblems were related ie. the smell coming out of the open dump valve, can anyone shed any light on either or both of these probs,
or even just correct me about the dump valve.

If dump valve is stucked open when engine is at idle you will hear air being dumped out and idle will not be smooth. Also you can feel the air coming out from your dump valve if it is open. That is one way of checking it.
If coolant level did not reduced, then there isnt a leak.
Hope this helps.

Just had it checked out and it seems that my new spec r header tank is faulty and is leaking.
Seems about right with the luck i'm having just lately
