Tonight driving home the scoob felt a bit wheezy, gave it a boot and hit 4500rpm and hit a rev limiter, the scoob dumped heaps of fuel into the exhaust with lots of pops and bangs.
Anyone any ideas? It's a 96 STi.

Sounds to me like the ECu has switched into limp mode. This may mean you have a fault logged with the ECU. To check for codes you need to connect 2 connectors which you will find at the bottom of your steering rack (in the drivers side footwell) There should be 2 green and 2 black connectors. You will need to connect the 2 black ones then turn on your ignition but DONT START THE CAR !! Watch for the ecu light - if it flashed constantly then there are no faults stored if it flashes intermitantly then this would point to a code. Do a search on ECU codes to see how you read them.....

Thanks for the replys guys!
I'd tried the fault codes and there was no check engine light, it definitely wasn't overboost either - I know what that feels like as your head goes flying towards the steering wheel! This was more like the rev limiter, but lots earlier than it should have been.
Seems to have sorted itself out now though, goes all the way up smoothly, I think it might have just been a bit of water finding its way under the bonnet.
