right just starting a new thread on this topic as after some talk I have decided to go for bits for the car, but still have a niggling doubt,

the car will be going to Rob and Andy of Sumo Power,

The car for those of you who don't know is a New UK STI-8 PPP,

the working being carried out is,

Downpipe,
Decat,
HKS RSK,
DO-Luck intercooler water spray system,
HKS-Sequential BOV,
Samco Hose Kit,
Turbo Timer,

as most of you know the PPP comes with uprtaed:

PPP Fuel Pump,
PPP ECU,
PPP Sports CAT,
PPP Backbox,

My concern is mainly the lambda sensors, and the engine check light, will this cause any problems for the car part from the light coming on, or is it OK to run until the next mod which is the Motec ECU.

any further advice would be much appreciated, as i dont like things going bang.

also after this has been done I will be looking at the next stage of modding, what do you guys reckon engine wise

It's not their decision, its the engineers from IM who decide if your car is repaired under warranty, and there is no way the garage will fork out £6K if you lunch your engine and the warranty is knocked back.

Be careful.

are there any warning signs to tell you weather or not the car is going to go bang,

apparently the de-cat that they have got in has got lamda sensors in it,

keeping in mind the boost will not be touched i.e we wont be turning it up

The HKS RSK - is that the Racing Suction Kit? If so I'd skip on that, they loko and sound fantastic, but without an engine remap they aren't really worth anything IMO, and risk killing the MAF(oiled, vibration and relatively poor filtration IMO)..which then risks killing the engine...also some specialists are concerned that the airflow is messed up leading to lean running...again bad.
MIke Wood from Prodrive has stated that the UK MY03STI has automatic waterspray..with a manual override, so the 'DO-Luck intercooler water spray system' also sounds a waste of money.
Finally, the 'HKS-Sequential BOV' is a great looking/sounding bit of kit but has zero performance benefit..fit it only if you are really keen to make your car sound like a spaceship.
(I have had the RSK and SSQ BOV in the past on my car...I got rid of both eventually)

As John stated above, rumour has it IM will send investigators to check each and every engine-related warranty claim for warranty-voiding modifications.....
My advice would be :
1 - leave it alone or
2 - fit a noiser backbox if you need more or
3 - go for a full decat and ecutek custom remap
But don't 'waste' money on HKS induction kit/bov solutions (£600 ish?) as you don't get anything but noise.
Just my 2pth
Chuck
Oh..and Scoobysport fitted full decat systems to latter cars and they all ran with the CEL lit for a god while with no ill-effects.
They wouldn't fit a decat to an STIPPP though without a restrictor...I'd strongly recommend talking to Scoobysport, Xstreme(whatever), TSL, BRD or one of the other specialists before you go ahead

Ta for the reply,

just another quick note though,

we are going to extensively tune the car over the next couple of months,

So:
fron't mounted intercooler,
Manifold,
Motec,
Oil Catch Tank,
Braided Hoses,
Boost controller,
Wastegate,
& relocation kit when it becomes available

The thing about the waterspray system is you can vary how much water is sprayed and at what tempreture it activates.

I know most of you will say breaks and internals are essential before doing any of the above mods this a jigsaw puzzle at the moment and one piece at a time, just need a hand in which order to put it together

and as for the backbox that's getting changed to the firestorm from TSL soon

as for warranty if the garage said they could and they don't then I'll have to take it on the chin, but fingers crossed eh !!

right I'm begining to think I might of been better off buying a EVO 8 with the amount of info I'm receiving on this, I'm out to be the first person to turn up to a scooby rolling road day making 400 BHP plus with an STI-8 and no one but no one is giving any real info if you think I'm bull shi**** then go on the evo forum and speak to the real guys and ask what me and my bro are doing is genuine,

yes we will probably be doing most of the work though Sumo Power but if they have the second fastest Evo in the country and the Fastest R34 skyline then can we be that stupid to use them,

come on help us, all right we are not doing it outright but we are willing to spend about 1500 a month on the car and that should be enough,

come on show me a little of this board lets see what we can all do to this car because your views and opinions are very important to us,

lets make a car that is extremely lethal, the replys are very useful indeed that I have received so far but I need a little more,

Best Regards

A complete mental case that happen to like cars

I wouldn't do anything to it without at LEAST investing in a knocklink. As you are one of the "early adopters" tuning an STi8, I would be buying a lot of gauges before I do anything else:

Knocklink
AFR
EGT
Oil Temp
Oil pressure
Boost

and that's just for starters.

Rather than a MoTec, can the car not run with a TEK3 remap? This would mean you retain the standard ECU, and probably more likely to retain your warranty (which MUST be void if you are doing all this to the car).

I don't know about on the newer cars, but I have an HKS SQV and it DEFINITELY improved the cars performance....gearchanges felt better, and gets back on boost quicker. This is quite possibly because the factory dump-valve on the older cars flaps open all the time, but it's still worth bearing in mind that you might "feel" a difference, even if the bhp figure stays the same.

generally a lot of the STI owners will agree, but the STI-8 has some flaws not big flaws

and they are the power band and when it is delivered and when it runs out, anything before 3000rpm and you might as well be driving a ford mondeo, and then it accelerates to around 6500 rpm then your back driving that ford mondeo again, and then you get into the next gear and repeat albeit you are out of the 3000 rpm band,

the reason we are looking at a Motec is that it is very easy to change settings and monitor fueling especially if you get the right guy to map it also it can be taken out of the car when it comes to sale time and put in another jap car. also antilag is good fun when you want to be a muppet for a while.

yep your right we are getting gauges and boost controller before any of the real major work takes place, I'm sorry I didn't mention taht it's just that I thought that it was obvious

thanks for your advice though it all gets taken on board

Cheers,
