Pro Boost octane booster.... How much should i use ?
#1
I've just bought some Pro Boost octane booster, its the 1 litre tin.
How much should i put in, i've been told the whole tin, but that seems a bit excessive.
I fill up with opitmax, and have always used millars in the past.
Thanks
Kevin

Officially Silkolene recommend:
% ml/litre
1= 10
1.5= 15
2= 20
2.5= 25
3= 30
On personal use half a can per tank and a full can for race days

If it is a European/UK car it is mapped to run on normal UK pump fuel. Check your hand book for the actual octane rating. This is done via the ECU and the ignition will be retarded a few degrees in comparison to Japanese domestic market cars where 100 ron fuel is available. The extra advance leads to more power from the JDM cars. There is no need to run octane booster in a standard UK car but it is desirable in a JDM vehicle unless it has been mapped to cope with the reduced ron.
On tuned engines, because of the changes that have taken place and in the pursuit of power it is desirable to run with as much advance as possible without detting the engine.
Octane booster therefore serves two purposes on a JDM or tuned vehicle. It brings the ron closer to that intended for the vehicle and hence provides a safety factor without necessarily improving performance.
On a tuned engine where it is possible to adjust the ECU settings, particularly ignition advance then additional power can be gained from running higher octane and more advance.

Sorry to pinch the post, but it's related..
MY99 STi5 RA records no Knock on the DeltaDash running with just Optimax, I've not got a knocklink, but I do run it with a bottle of NF oneshot to £25 of fuel.
As my car's not showing knock without the NF, is it actually worth me using it?

The NF I run is"Race Formula" with 300mls per bottle. For general use it is recommended to use 1ml per litre so if you put in 50 litre it is 50mls per fill. This means you can get SIX tankfulls out of one bottle. I go to the local chemists and get small measuring cups. 50mls is only an egg cup full approx.
If I am going on track or rolling road then I use 2mls per litre for safety but make no changes to the ECU settings.
If I have read your post correctly and you are actually using "Race Formula" then I would not expect you would ever see det with one bottle per tankful!!!

Thanks for the compliments.
Now realise "One Shot" is a single shot form of NF. If you get no knock now you could try it without the NF and Optimax only and if still no det then only use NF for safety when engine will be subjected to hard work.
You are trying to find the limit or tolerance of your car with the current ECU settings but remember that the cost of a bottle of N.F. is small in comparison to the repair cost of a badly detted engine.
