Unhappy

My turbo's jingling.

I would imagine this is because (after removing the heatshield to look) the nice little metal strap that fastens the two halves appears to have fallen off.

I can only imagine the jingling is the delicate little blades grinding against the strong metal housing.

I would imagine I am going to need a new turbo-charger soon.
Shall I bother to fix this one (new strap) or just let the poor thing die?

Is it worth sourcing another IHI VF12, or should I be looking at a TD05? What's the price comparison?
Can I get them second hand?
Is it worth me converting to straight entry?

====help====

Sorry guys, just could do with some good advice on what to do next.

I think there is a VF34 in the for sale section if you fancy a bit of a conversion.

Only wants £150

As far as I know the VF34 will directly fit my MY98 scooby (used as standard on STi 5 and 6) and gives amazing spool up speed hitting full boost at about 2800revs. It is rated at 17psi but is front entry where as TD05 for a subaru has a 90o entry. Thats all I know. If I can get some cash together I'll have this one but owner seems keen to sell so thought I'd let you know.
Don't know anything about the quality of it though and haven't got any more details.

I thought STi5's and 6's came with vf28's which are pretty similar to vf24's

Wink

Good idea about not driving it....I hadn't thought about where all that metal was ending up.

Bum.

If I put a TD05 on, I would be taking the long-view of converting it to straight entry.

If I put the VF24 on, I'm going to have to do that straight away? Or get some kind of right angle...thingy....

Cool

Dave, if I went TD05 would I just need a ScoobyECU with a WRX map in it to make it all work nicely?

And how easy is it to change: it looks easy(ish) apart from the tricky bolts which look a bit seized.
