My X reg registered Sept 2000 is up for a 45,000 mile service while phoneing round for prices, 50% of the dealers said that the MY00 cars do not need a timing belt change until 60,000 miles so the service would be approx £180, but the rest maintained that the 45,000 service included the timeing belt and would be upwards of £350.

Can anyone shed some light on this as all the garages were Subaru dealers.

I believe that Subaru changed the belt service to 60k at MY00, which it also is for MY01, 02 and 03. I understand that some dealers prefere to stick to 45k for some reason.
What does your service book say?

My book says 45K but the dealer said that they back dated the service to cover all MY00 cars.

I'll probably get it done to be on the safe side wouldn't want to replace the engine for the sake of saving a couple og hundred quid.

Service guide say 60k. As long as the car is less than 3 years old, don't worry - you are covered by warranty.

My Subaru dealer wasn't going to do the cambelt at the 45k service, but did it on my request. Normally they would have done it at 60k (MY00 UK).

MY99 45K
MY00+ 60K

They're the same part - nothing changed internally - I rang IM to confirm this when I had my 45K dont at SS on my old MY99.

Trumble is correct MY99=45000 MY00=60000 it was a policy change only by IM. Same part number. Most people opt for 45000 change just for caution.
