Engine Heat
#1
Hi,
I'm a new scooby owner and have a impreza turbo 2000 year 1999. Just a general question about engine heat, my temperature gage is always in the middle, so everything normal there, but I guess this could be fixed by the garage. It's just once i've been out for a blast the engine seems pretty damn hot by the time I am home. Seems much hotter than my previous golf gti. Is this normal or have I bought a nail.

Turbos can easily get upto 8-900degrees. Your golf wouldn't. So it will seem alot hotter under there. Is your guage showing hotter than normal? If not I wouldn't worry.

Don't worry.
I've put my MY99 in the garage and gone back an hour later to find she's still hot !
The best tip I can give is to drive off boost for 5 mins b4 you are going to stop. This allows oil to flow around the turbo bearings etc, cooling it and stopping it ceasing up.
The label on your door tells you to idle for a couple of mins but driving off boost gets moving air under the bonnet and preforms the same job.
